The Automobile Association of the Northern Territory (AANT) has introduced the first mobile EV charging solution to its roadside assistance services in the greater Darwin area, enhancing support for electric vehicle (EV) owners.
This initiative marks a significant step in addressing one of the key challenges faced by EV drivers: charging infrastructure.
Edon Bell, AANT Operations Manager, highlighted the significance of this new service.
“With the increase of EVs on Darwin roads, one of the major concerns for drivers remains the availability of charging infrastructure. Our new electric roadside assistance van incorporates the latest charging technology, providing a crucial battery top-up if the battery is flat or state of charge becomes critically low.”
The mobile charger can deliver approximately 15 kilometers of range in just 20 minutes. This is enough to get drivers to the nearest charging point within the Darwin area, offering a more convenient solution to towing and helping to alleviate the range anxiety for EV drivers.
Since its establishment in 1963, AANT has been a cornerstone of support for Northern Territory drivers. This latest development is seen as a continuation of the organisation's commitment to adapt and evolve in response to the changing needs of its members.
“We’ve always aimed to ensure motorists can get back on the road quickly and efficiently,” Mr Bell said. “Expanding our services to include EV support is a natural progression in our mission to serve the community.”
The new service is available immediately to all Roadside Assistance members in the Darwin area at no additional cost. This service is integrated into their existing coverage, reflecting AANT’s dedication to providing comprehensive support for all types of vehicles.
With this new offering, AANT continues to demonstrate its leadership in adapting to the evolving landscape of transportation, ensuring that all drivers—whether in conventional or electric vehicles—receive the assistance they need.
