Burglars often have their sights set on more than just the usual valuables. Here are six unexpected items they might target:

Number Plates:

It might surprise you, but burglars often steal number plates. These plates can be used to disguise stolen vehicles or enable other criminal activities. Consider using anti-theft screws and parking your car in well-lit or secure areas to deter thieves.

Pets:

Even our beloved pets aren't immune to theft. Burglars might take them for resale or ransom. Ensure your pets are microchipped and avoid leaving them unattended in vulnerable areas. It's a troubling thought, but burglars don't think like the majority, and even our furry friends aren't immune to burglary.

Construction Materials:

Construction sites often have valuable materials and tools that may be the target of burglars. Strengthen security with fencing and surveillance to protect against theft. If you're doing weekend renovations, always keep your tools and equipment within sight, and secure anything that could be easily taken before calling it a day.

Vegetables and Plants:

Even your garden isn't safe from theft. Community gardens and household patches can be targeted for fresh produce. Install motion-activated lights or fencing to discourage opportunistic intruders. It's not uncommon for small-time opportunists to steal items like pot plants and garden ornaments.   Secure pot plants by filling them with heavy rocks, and anchor ornaments to the ground or onto a heavy cement pad.

Musical Instruments:

Your prized musical instruments, like guitars and violins, can be appealing targets for burglars. Keep them secure in locked cases or storage areas to prevent theft. Also, be mindful of noise levels when playing valuable instruments to ensure opportunists aren’t waiting for the right moment to strike while you're away.

Prescription Medications:

Burglars may raid medicine cabinets in search of valuable medications. Secure your medications in locked cabinets or safes to deter theft. Avoid leaving medications in common places such as bedside cabinets and bathrooms.

By being aware of these uncommon targets and taking steps to secure your home, you can minimize the risk of burglary and protect your family and possessions. Consider investing in security systems and adopting secure storage practices for added peace of mind.
