Bali Scooter

Territorians seeking the thrill of exploring Bali's vibrant landscapes on scooters need to navigate local regulations and secure the right documentation. In this simple guide, we provide key information for a seamless scooter adventure.

International Drivers Permit (IDP)
Before revving up those scooters, it's crucial to understand the necessity of an International Driving Permit (IDP). In Indonesia, all foreign tourists, including Australians, are required to have an IDP; your Australian driver's licence alone won't suffice.

The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) is the only authorised distributor of IDPs in Australia, and the AANT is sales agent in the Northern Territory.

You can either Apply online or visit the AANT Shop with your Australian Driver's Licence and recent passport style photo. If you apply online ensure you apply online at least 3-5 business days before your trip to ensure a smooth process.

Licensing Requirements
Legal scooter exploration in Bali depends on possessing the appropriate Australian motorbike license covering vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 50CC. Given Bali's preference for renting scooters with engines of 100CC and above, Territorians must ensure their licence aligns with these specifications for a trouble-free rental experience.

Travel Insurance Compliance
While Bali's scenic roads beckon, safety should be a top priority. A travel insurance policy is your safety net, but adherence to specific criteria is essential. Travellers risk not being covered if they lack their Australian motorbike licence (especially for engines over 50CC), neglect helmets, ride under the influence, or lack crucial documentation like an IDP.
