Drink driving. It's the elephant in the room.
Drink driving is a problem that requires ongoing awareness and education.
On average, alcohol is involved in 40% of all road deaths and up to 20% of serious injuries in the Northern Territory. From 2007 to 2016, alcohol was a factor in 191 deaths on Territory roads.
With the sheer destruction that drink driving causes to its victims and their families, we believe that more conversations and greater awareness on this serious issue is required.
That’s why we placed one giant conversation-sparking elephant in Raintree Park, in the lead up to National Road Safety Week. It was fascinating to talk to Territorians about how we can all influence positive change, and it starts with being brave enough to talk about the issue.
Drink driving affects your:
- Vision
- Speed and distance judgements
- Reflexes and reaction times
