AANT sell a range of approved child restraints, in-store at the AANT Traveller’s Shop on the corner of Knuckey St & Smith St Mall, Darwin. (Online shop coming soon.)
When purchasing a child restraint, look for the Australian Standards symbol. All child restraints sold in Australia must meet the strict requirements of AS/NZS1754 which sets the minimum requirements for materials, design, construction, performance, testing and labelling of child restraint systems. Restraints bought in other countries will not meet the Australian Standard – it is illegal to use them in Australia. Child restraints more than 10 years of age are not recommended for use as they will not meet new improved design features.
Further, it is illegal to sell any restraint that does not comply with AS/NZS 1754. Before using a second hand child car restraint check for an Australian Standards Sticker (AS/NZS1754), date of manufacture and the history of the restraint. We do not recommend the use of second hand car restraints if you do not know whether or not it has been in a car accident.
